Dale L. Olson, 88, of Cambridge, MN, formerly of Rock Creek, died Friday, May 4, 2012 at Grace Pointe Crossing East in Cambridge. Dale Lloyd Olson was born July 16, 1923 in Rock Creek, Minn. to William and Jennie (Dahlstrom) Olson. Dale is preceded in death by his wife Shirley (Sederberg) Olson, parents William & Jennie (Dahlstrom) Olson, and his brothers: Chuck, Kenny and Harold Olson. He was raised in Rock Creek Township and attended school and worked in the Rock Creek and Rush City Areas. During World War II, Dale proudly served his country with the US Army Headquarters Co 345th Engineers in Italy and Greece from 1944-1946. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Dale found employment for two years in Oregon and California. Upon his return to Minnesota, Dale was employed with the City of Rush City for 18 years and later with the city of Cambridge where he retired after 20 years and a combined 38 years of service. Dale was a past Commander (1952-55) of VFW Post #6692 in Rush City where he was an active member of the Post and Honor Guard for 50 plus years. Dale was a life-long member of the Helios Masonic Lodge in Cambridge and Jasper Masonic Lodge in Rush City and the Osman Shrine of St. Paul, MN. He enjoyed traveling to far away places such as Hawaii and more recently to Wisconsin Dells. In later years his destination became the Sandstone Country Music Venue. Dale also enjoyed fishing, being in parades with other Shriners, working at the Osman Shrine Circus and family get-together's. Dale was a Member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City for 50 plus years. Dale is survived by his wife Gladys Haugrud-Olson of Cambridge, daughter Judy (Steve) Marshall of Savage, sister La Dez Pangerl of Rock Creek, brothers: Clifford (Ruth) Olson of Rush City, Ronnie (Jan) Olson of Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law Sharon Olson of Hinckley, step-daughter Deb Jacobson of Dresser, WI, step-sons: Geoff Haugrud of Pine City, Mitch (Jill) Haugrud of Rush City, Craig (Susan) Haugrud of Rush City, Kevin (Lisa) Haugrud of Wyoming, MN; 9 step-grandchildren; 2 step great-granddaughters, and many other relatives and friends. Pastor Laurie O'Shea will officiate at funeral services for Dale Olson, at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 10, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City, 1000 South Jay Ave. The visitation will also take place at First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 9, from 4 to 7 pm, with a Masonic Service at 7 pm. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City. Memorials are preferred to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rush City. Arrangements are entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service, Olson Chapel of Rush City.
